EPTS: Summer School 2026 – Registration
The Summer School on “accessible, barrier-free, and inclusive cross-border public transport,” which has been established with great success and excellent feedback over the past two years, will be held for the third time in 2026. The initiators and sponsors of the Summer School are the European Platform of Transport Sciences (EPTS) and the Austrian Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
The 2026 Summer School will take place from June 29th to July 3rd at the University of Žilina in Slovakia. Students of all academic levels (bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate) are invited to apply for one of the places for the coming year.
The program is largely based on personal experience. Using various simulation tools, students —accompanied by experienced mentors— gain first-hand experience of the everyday lives of people with disabilities and the challenges and barriers they face. The central highlight is the “field trip” organized by the students themselves. These experiences are reflected upon, processed, and presented in workshops and exchanges with experts. The program concludes with a ceremonial presentation of certificates. The costs for participation are kept as low as possible, and funding is available through Erasmus+.
“The students participating in the summer school will always remember how it felt to be in the role of a person with a disability, and they will pay attention to aspects of accessibility with a professionally sharpened eye in their future professional lives,” concludes Associate Professor Dr. Elmar Wilhelm M. Fürst, one of the initiators.
